Abstract
The mission of the California State Board of Corrections is to provide leadership in the pursuit of local correctional effectiveness. The guiding principles outlined in this plan include a focus on local corrections, integrity, planning, quality, fostering an environment of openness and trust, team work, communication, and recognition. The Board of Corrections’ vision is presented and the purpose of the Board is outlined, including the goal of establishing and continually re-evaluating the minimum standards for local juvenile and adult detention facilities. Other main purposes of the Board include the reviewing of architectural plans for construction and remodeling of all local detention facilities, and the establishment of selection and training standards for all local correctional personnel. A summary is offered of the Board’s main duties and responsibilities, followed by an overview of the Board of Corrections’ Divisions.
