TABULAR DATA ON THE RESULTS OF A SPECIAL SURVEY OF THE STATUS AND NEEDS ON 123 COUNTY (AND A FEW SELECTED CITY) JAILS OPERATING IN LATE 1972 AND EARLY 1973.
Abstract
THIS LOCAL JAIL INFORMATION WAS NEEDED TO ESTABLISH A SYSTEM OF PRIORITIES FOR THE ALLOCATION OF FEDERAL FUNDS TO LOCAL JAIL IMPROVEMENTS. AN 18-PAGE QUESTIONNAIRE COVERING JAIL PERSONNEL, EXPENDITURES, PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND POLICIES, PHYSICAL PLANT, PRISONER POPULATION, RECORDED ASSAULTS AND OTHER JAIL DISTURBANCES, PRISONER PROCESSING, AND PERSONAL SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT PROVIDED TO PRISONERS WAS DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL JAILERS. A TOTAL OF 28 DETAIL TABLES SHOW SPECIFIC DATA FOR EACH FACILITY PARTICIPATING IN THE SURVEY. A COPY OF THE SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE IS APPENDED. FOR TABULAR AND NARRATIVE DATA ON THE STATEWIDE SURVEY RESULTS, SEE NCJ-38584.
