TABLES PRESENT DATA ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN CALIFORNIA FOR THE PERIOD 1969 THROUGH 1978 AND SELECTED 1978 STATISTICS ON CRIME REPORTED, ARRESTS, PROSECUTION, AND PROBATION.
Abstract
INFORMATION WAS COMPILED BY THE CALIFORNIA BUREAU OF CRIMINAL STATISTICS FROM REPORTS SUBMITTED BY STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. THE FIRST SET OF TABLES PROVIDES COMPARATIVE DATA FOR THE ENTIRE STATE ON SEVEN MAJOR OFFENSES AND CLEARANCES, JUVENILE AND ADULT ARRESTS, CASE DISPOSITIONS, EXPENDITURES BY CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, PERSONNEL, INMATES OF CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS, AND PROBATION CASELOADS. ARREST TOTALS ARE BROKEN DOWN INTO MALE-FEMALE CATEGORIES, AND PERCENTAGE FIGURES ARE AVAILABLE FOR POLICE AND COURT DISPOSITIONS. THE REFERENCES TABLES FOR 1978 FOLLOW A SIMILAR PATTERN BUT ARE ORGANIZED ACCORDING TO COUNTY AND CONTAIN DETAILED DATA ON AGE, SEX, AND RACE FOR ARRESTS AND DISPOSITIONS. SENTENCES, COMMITMENTS TO STATE INSTITUTIONS, AND SUPERIOR COURT REOPENINGS ARE ALSO TABULATED FOR EACH COUNTY. FOOTNOTES EXPLAIN REPORTING PROCEDURES AND DATA LIMITATIONS. A GLOSSARY DEFINES CRIMINAL JUSTICE TERMS AND LISTS FELONIES AND MISDEMEANORS. (MJM)
