This is the 2001 statewide report of the annual California Criminal Justice Profile series, which supplements and expands on the data provided in the Criminal Justice Statistics Center's publication "Crime and Delinquency in California."
Abstract
The report has three major sections. The section entitled "Criminal Justice Trend Data" presents data for crimes, arrests, arrest dispositions, adult probation, jail populations, criminal justice personnel, and expenditures for the most recent 10 years (1992-2001). The section entitled "Current Year Data" presents selected data in more detail for the current reporting year (2001). In this statewide report, current data are presented for the entire State and by county. Separate reports provide more detailed data for the county and for each contributing jurisdiction within the county. The Appendix section contains information on data characteristics and known limitations, a glossary of criminal justice terms, and a list of arrest offense codes that are included in the felony and misdemeanor arrest offense categories. The statewide trend data show that in 1992, California reported 2,082,863 FBI Index crimes compared with 1,346,057 Index crimes reported in 2001. There were 1,092,832 violence Index crimes in 1992 and 641,506 in 2001. In 1992, there were 747,324 Index property crimes compared with 430,996 in 2001. Extensive tabular data
