THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS DETAILED INFORMATION NECESSARY FOR DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM DESIGN, ANALYSIS, AND PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS COMPREHENSIVE DATA SYSTEMS (CDS) MODULE PROVIDING CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADMINISTRATIVE DATA.
Abstract
THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION AWARDED A MULTI-GRANT PROGRAM TO THE CALIFORNIA BUREAU OF CRIMINAL STATISTICS ENTITLED COMPREHENSIVE DATA SYSTEMS. THE CDS OBJECTIVES WERE TO ESTABLISH AN INTEGRATED CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEM, TO ENSURE UNIFORM AND RELIABLE DATA, AND TO ACT AS A PLANNING TOOL FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADMINISTRATORS. CDS IS COMPOSED OF FIVE MODULES, ONE OF WHICH IS THE MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE STATISTICS (MAS). THE OBJECTIVES OF MAS ARE TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A SYSTEMATIC METHOD OF COLLECTING, ANALYZING AND REPORTING DATA ON PERSONNEL, EXPENDITURES, WORKLOAD, FACILITIES, AND EQUIPMENT FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT, PROSECUTION, PUBLIC DEFENSE, JUDICIAL, AND PROBATION AGENCIES IN CALIFORNIA. AMONG THE AREAS COVERED IN THIS REPORT ARE DATA ELEMENTS, DATA CODES, COMPUTER VALIDATION AND CONDITIONAL CHECKS, TRANSACTION PROCESSING, ERROR PROCESSING, FILE CONTROL, FILE SECURITY, ERROR LISTINGS, AND STATISTICAL REPORTS.
