THE REPORT SUMMARIZES PROJECTS THAT WERE COMPLETED PRIOR TO 1972 OR WERE ONGOING PROJECTS IN WHICH THE DIVISION OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT HAD A RESEARCH ROLE.
Abstract
BEGINNING WITH THE COMMUNITY TREATMENT PROJECT, THE REPORT SUMMARIZES THE EVALUATIONS OF A NUMBER OF PROJECTS WHICH FOCUS ON THE PREVENTION, CONTROL, AND TREATMENT OF DELINQUENCY AT THE COMMUNITY LEVEL. OF THE 29 PROJECTS SUMMARIZED, 19 OF THEM WERE WHOLLY, OR IN PART, FUNDED THROUGH OUTSIDE FUNDING SOURCES. AS AN EXAMPLE OF COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS, ONE PROJECT INVOLVED SELECTED PAROLE AND PROBATION UNITS IN THE USE OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TECHNIQUES IN COMMUNITY TREATMENT SETTINGS. THIS DOCUMENT FURTHER REPORTS ON STUDIES OF NINE YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS, LOCATED IN VARIOUS COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE, TO DETERMINE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS IN DIVERTING JUVENILES FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM AND IN REDUCING DELINQUENCY. FINALLY, IT WAS NOTED IN THIS ANNUAL REPORT THAT THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY WAS DEVELOPING THREE COMMUNITY BASED MODELS AIMED AT PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION SERVICES IN THREE DIFFERENT AREAS OF CALIFORNIA.
