During 1991, local juvenile probation departments in California operated 52 residential camps and ranches with a combined average capacity of 4,143 beds, a statewide average daily population of 3,642, and a rate of occupancy of 87.9 percent.
Abstract
Fifty-one camps were in operation as the year began; three closed and one opened during the year. Seventeen of the 49 camps in operation in December 1991 were considered secure and 32 were considered nonsecure. As of December 1991, Los Angeles County had 2,094 beds, or 51.1 percent of the total. The available beds increased from 1987 to 1991, while the average population decreased. The camps and ranches reported 13,293 admissions during 1991.
