A STATISTICAL DESCRIPTION IS PRESENTED OF THE INMATE POPULATION OF THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS DURING 1974 AND 1975.
Abstract
THIS REPORT CONSISTS PRIMARILY OF TABULAR DATA WITH LITTLE TEXT. THE INSTITUTIONAL POPULATION OF THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS INCREASED 10 PERCENT DURING 1974, RESULTING IN A TOTAL POPULATION OF 24,741 PERSONS AT THE CLOSE OF THE YEAR. THIS POPULATION THEN DECREASED 19 PERCENT TO 10,028 PERSONS BY THE END OF 1975. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 95 PERSONS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS INSTITUTIONS FOR EVERY 100,000 PERSONS IN THE STATE. GRAPHIC AND TABULAR SUMMARIES ARE PRESENTED REGARDING FELONS NEWLY RECEIVED FROM COURT, DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF FELONS IN PRISON, FELONS RELEASED FROM PRISON PAROLE POPULATION AND MOVEMENT, CHARACTERISTICS OF FELONS ON PAROLE, PAROLE SUSPENSION, REINSTATEMENT, FELONS DISCHARGED FROM PAROLE, AND FELONS RETURNED TO CALIFORNIA PRISONS. STATISTICS RELATING TO THE WORK FURLOUGH AND TRAINING FURLOUGH PROGRAMS AND THE COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS CENTERS ARE ALSO EVALUATED. RELEVANT TABULAR DATA ARE APPENDED.
