Statistical data are provided on felons, civil narcotic addicts (CNA's), and other populations under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Corrections (CDC).
Abstract
The publication is organized into seven chapters, with a data section containing information on different population types under CDC jurisdiction. Within each chapter, summary data are illustrated through descriptive text, charts, and graphs that record trends and compare the constantly changing CDC population. The data section contains tables that ae referenced throughout the text as the source for charts and graphs. The publication's final section contains a reference guide that lists prisons by name and location and includes maps to identify counties, areas of commitment, and parole regions. Data are tabulated that reflect the institutional population by offense category, ethnic group, and age. Statistics are presented for violent, property, drug, and other offenses and for CNA's, felons, the death sentence population, and the community correctional center population. In addition, statistics reflect the behavior of inmates in CDC institutions, parolees, and parole violators. As of December 31, 1992, the CDC population totaled 212,886. The 86,389 felons and CNA's on parole in 1992 represented a 4.6- increase over 1991. During 1992, there were 40,158 new felon admissions to the CDC. Tables and figures
