A GUIDE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PARTICIPATIVE TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS IN CORRECTIONS THAT IS APPLICABLE TO OTHER VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE BASIC ASSUMPTIONS OF PARTICIPATIVE TRAINING RELATE TO THE CHANGES IN ADULT LEARNERS PRODUCED BY THE EXPERIENCES AND PROCESSES OF MATURING. THEY BECOME A RESOURCE FOR LEARNING OF THE GROUP, THEY TEND TOWARD IMMEDIATE APPLICATION RATHER THAN POSTPONED APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE, USUALLY ARE MORE PROBLEM-CENTERED THAN SUBJECT-CENTERED, AND THEIR READINESS TO LEARN IS ORIENTED TOWARD THE TASKS OF SOCIAL ROLES. THIS DOCUMENT PROVIDES THE GUIDELINES TO ENABLE VOLUNTEER TRAINING GROUPS TO RECOGNIZE AND MAKE THE BEST USE OF THESE FACTORS IN A TRAINING EXPERIENCE. SUGGESTIONS FOR DETERMINING SPECIFIC NEEDS, GOALS, AND OBJECTIVES, AND OBJECTIVES AND OUTLINES FOR DESIGNING, IMPLEMENTING AND EVALUATING THE LEARNING EXPERIENCES ARE PROVIDED. SAMPLE OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES ARE GIVEN FOR THE SEQUENCE OF TASKS AND SAMPLE QUESTIONNAIRES ARE SHOWN FOR PARTICULAR ISSUES.
