The Westminster-Canterbury House in Richmond (Va.) provides various appropriate levels of care to its more than 600 senior citizen residents.
Abstract
The nine-story main building contains 367 independent living apartments, and a second wing contains 130 apartments for more frail residents. A third wing houses residents who require 24-hour nursing care. The security and communications manager believes that residents feel secure when greeted by a security officer and that humane treatment of residents and employees makes security easier and more effective. Rigid, periodic inspections of security equipment and resident involvement aid in security efforts. The facility is equipped with a sprinkler system, fire- and smoke-barrier doors, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire alarm pulls, and a control panel with a 12-second delay confirmation module that eliminates nuisance alarms.
