INTERVIEWS OF A CROSS SECTION OF CAMPUS ADMINISTRATORS, FACULTY, AND STUDENTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING A MODEL TO HANDLE PROBLEMS OF STUDENT UNREST.
Abstract
INTERVIEWEES WERE QUESTIONED ON THE MAJOR CAUSES OF CAMPUS UNREST, THE APPROPRIATE ATTITUDE OF THE UNIVERSITY, THE CAUSAL CONNECTION OF UNREST AND VIOLENCE, AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH OUTSIDE FORCES SHOULD BE CALLED ONTO CAMPUS. THIS RESEARCH LED TO THE CREATION OF TWO CHECKLISTS - ONE CONTAINING POSSIBLE CAUSES OF UNREST AND THE OTHER CONTAINING THE MAJOR SUGGESTIONS FOR ITS PREVENTION. THE RESEARCH TEAM ALSO DEVISED A CAMPUS ORDER FLOW CHART DESIGNED TO SHOW THE ORDERLY WAY IN WHICH DISSENT CAN BE HANDLED THROUGH A RESPONSECOUNTERRESPONSE PROCESS. A MANUAL FOR THE ADAPTATION OF THE CAMPUS ORDER FLOW CHART MODEL TO GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY IN ATLANTA IS INCLUDED AND AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY.
