Abstract
IN ADDITION TO GENERAL ASSIGNMENTS FOR PATROL AND SUSPECT LOCATION, THE HANDLER-DOG TEAMS HAVE PROVEN THEIR EFFECTIVENESS AND RELIABILITY IN THE SPECIALIZED TASKS OF NARCOTICS AND EXPLOSIVES DETECTION. THE AUTHOR OUTLINES THE DOG SELECTION REQUIREMENTS, THE TRAINING REGIMEN FOR DOGS AND HANDLERS, AND THE RANGE OF OPERATIONS IN WHICH THESE TEAMS ARE USED BY DEPARTMENT AND OTHER POLICE AND MILITARY AGENCIES AS WELL.
