HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF A REGIONAL POLICE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK IN THE CAPE COD AREA, MASS., FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICE PURPOSES.
Abstract
THE POLICE RADIO SYSTEM, BY LAW UNDER THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION OF THE AUTHOR, MADE RADIO SERVICE AVAILABLE TO ALL TOWNS ON CAPE COD. THE TOWNS WERE REQUIRED TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO PURCHASE THEIR OWN MOBILE EQUIPMENT AND POLICE STATION SETS, BUT THE COUNTY PROVIDED PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN ALL RADIOS. TWO FULLY EQUIPPED SERVICE VANS ARE ON CALL FOR EMERGENCY REPAIRS ON A 24-HOUR-A-DAY BASIS. THE COUNTY ALSO MAINTAINS THE CENTRAL STATION WHICH SERVES AS A CLEARINGHOUSE FOR ALL COMMUNICATIONS AND AS A RELAY STATION BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS.
