Abstract
THIS COLLECTION OF TWENTY-FIVE ESSAYS DISCUSS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THIS JUDICIAL DECISION, SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE, AND LEGISLATIVE RESPONSE; THE ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN MURDER AND RAPE CASES; AND WHAT THE GENERAL PUBLIC THINKS ABOUT THE DEATH PENALTY AND WHY. OTHER AREAS COVERED INCLUDE HOW MORAL ATTITUDES DEVELOP TOWARD CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, MEASUREMENT OF THE DETERRENT VALUE OF THE DEATH PENALTY, AND HOW JURIES PERCEIVE CAPITAL CASES. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF OFFENDERS ON DEATH ROW AND THE NATURE OF CAPITAL CRIMES AND CAPITAL PUNISHMENT AS SEEN FROM A MEDICAL AND PSYCHIATRIC VIEWPOINT ARE ALSO ANALYZED. A LIST OF CONTRIBUTIONS AND AN INDEX ARE INCLUDED. (SNI ABSTRACT)
