This document presents charts and figures on the organization of the correctional system in the Netherlands and the numbers and characteristics of adult and juvenile offenders in these institutions.
Abstract
Prison capacities have gradually increased between 1984 and 1992, and 6,997 men and 319 women were in prison on the average during 1992. The capacity of juvenile detention centers and juvenile treatment centers has also gradually increased. The average daily populations were 294 for juvenile detention centers and 422 for juvenile treatment centers in 1992. Ninety-two percent of the detainees and 72 percent of those in treatment centers were males. The prisons had a total of 7,233 staff members as of mid-1992. Figures and chart
