THIS PROJECT WAS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A STATEWIDE POLICE CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CONSISTING OF REFRESHER, INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED, LINE SUPERVISION, MIDDLE MANAGEMENT, AND EXECUTIVE CAREER LEVEL COURSES.
Abstract
THE FLORIDA POLICE STANDARDS BOARD UTILIZED EXPERIENCED LAW ENFORCEMENT AND TRAINING PERSONNEL IN WORKSHOP SESSIONS TO RESEARCH AND DESIGN SIX SPECIALIZED TRAINING COURSES: INSTRUCTORS' TECHNIQUES; NARCOTIC IDENTIFICATION AND INVESTIGATION; CRIME SCENE PROCEDURES; CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION TECHNIQUES; CRIMINAL LAW RELATING TO ARRESTS, SEARCH, SEIZURE, STATEMENTS, AND CONFESSIONS; AND CASE PREPARATION AND COURT PRESENTATION. THE PRINCIPAL GOAL OF EACH WORKSHOP GROUP WAS DETERMINING THE APPROPRIATE SUBJECTS TO BE TAUGHT, THE PROPER NUMBER OF HOURS TO BE ALLOWED EACH SUBJECT TAUGHT, THE RELEVANCE OF SUBJECT MATTER TO JOB REQUIREMENTS, AND THE INTERNAL CONSISTENCY AND INTERRELATION OF EACH CURRICULUM. THIS REPORT PRESENTS A DISCUSSION OF THE GRANT METHODOLOGY, PLUS AN OUTLINE OF THE COURSE CONTENTS, INCLUDED ARE PARTICIPANT EVALUATION OBSERVATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION RECOMMENDATIONS OF WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS. THE PILOT IMPLEMENTATION OF THREE OF THE COURSES IS ALSO DISCUSSED. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS LISTS OF WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS AND COURSE INSTRUCTORS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
