This guide provides a look at career opportunities in criminal justice for those who wish to pursue a career in the field and is also designed to be a career source book for use by those already in the field who want to enrich and enhance their careers.
Abstract
A chart delineates the major branches of the criminal justice system, followed by an article which provides a critical analysis of the past, present, and future of criminal justice education. A graph shows the projected number of job openings expected on an average annual basis during 1978-79 in the criminal justice field. Information is also included on career job titles in law enforcement and related areas; job descriptions for correctional officers and others; a careers bibliography; sample job specifications; special jobs for law students; guidelines for hiring correctional officers; job stress and fitness; unions; and the rank order of judicial salaries, income, and population. Other sections of the guide present job hunting resources and information on education and professional enrichment (i.e., sample curricula, criminal justice publications and publishers, aids for legal research, and other resources). Special attention is devoted to volunteering and opportunities for paralegals, women, and ex-offenders. Several specialized bibliographies are included.
