This document contains testimony from various child social service providers, Black community leaders, politicians, teachers, and law enforcement officers on the problems of caring for young black children in Louisiana.
Abstract
The focus of the hearing was on Louisiana as a case study designed to provide insight into the problems of child care as they relate to economics and the stress that socioeconomic status may place on families. The prepared statements presented here illustrate that quality child care can be a tool in helping the success of families by allowing parents to seek out training and employment, preventing child abuse, and providing families with a bit of respite when they face pressing economic situations.
