Abstract
REPRESENTATIVES FROM GERMANY, JAPAN, CANADA, SWITZERLAND, ISRAEL, AND THE UNITED STATES PARTICIPATED IN THIS CONFERENCE, COVERING SUCH TOPICS AS THE MOBILE WIRELESS DATA COMMUNICATION SYSTEM; THE PHILADELPHIA, PA., CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION SYSTEM TYING TOGETHER THE 9 DIVISIONS AND 22 DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND CITY HALL; AND THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON, TEX., MUG FILE SYSTEM, A COMPUTER-BASED SYSTEM PERMITTING POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO RETRIEVE PICTURES OF POTENTIAL SUSPECTS FROM THEIR MUG FILES BY USING CERTAIN INFORMATION. THE JAPANESE POLICE USE OF THE FACSIMILE AND TELEPHOTOGRAPHY SYSTEM AS A MEANS OF COMMUNICATION IS DESCRIBED, AS WELL AS SPECTRAL MODIFICATION TO ENHANCE SPEECH, THE SPEECH SIGNAL PRIVACY SYSTEM BASED ON TIME MANIPULATION, AND ANALOG SCRAMBLING VERSUS DIGITAL SCRAMBLING IN POLICE TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORKS. IN THE AREA OF NUCLEAR SECURITY, APPLICATION OF NUCLEAR RESONANCE TECHNIQUES TO THE DETECTION OF EXPLOSIVES IS PROPOSED, THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY'S (DOE'S) TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM FOR NUCLEAR MATERIALS, INCLUDING THE ROLE OF STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IS PRESENTED; AND ELECTRONIC ANTIPILFERAGE SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED. OTHER TOPICS ADDRESSED ARE THE USE OF MICROWAVE RESPIRATION MONITORS TO MONITOR HUMAN RESPIRATION WITHOUT PHYSICAL CONTACT; DOE-SPONSORED EVALUATIONS OF INTERIOR INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEMS; PROBLEMS IN SPECIFYING ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT FOR USE IN PENAL ENVIRONMENTS; INFRARED ILLUMINATION FOR CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION SYSTEMS; RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN FORENSIC DIGITAL AUDIO PROCESSING; AND A COMPUTER TECHNICAL FINGERPRINT SEARCH SYSTEM.
