EVALUATION OF JUVENILE CORRECTIONS PROGRAMS IN CALIFORNIA WHICH MATCHED TREATMENT PERSONNEL, ENVIRONMENTS, AND METHODS WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF DELINQUENTS.
Abstract
A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY BASED AND INSTITUTIONAL PROJECTS WAS DEVELOPED TO REHABILITATE SERIOUS AND HABITUAL JUVENILE OFFENDERS. THE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM UTILIZED IN ALL OF THESE EXPERIMENTS WAS BASED ON INTERPERSONAL MATURITY LEVEL THEORY, WHICH EXPLAINS CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT BY STAGES OF PERCEPTUAL DIFFERENTIATION AND RESPONSE. THE SUCCESS OF THESE PROGRAMS DEMONSTRATED THE FEASIBILITY OF TREATING A LARGE PROPORTION OF THE DELINQUENT POPULATION IN THE COMMUNITY.
