Annotation
The case management process of the Canada Correctional Service focuses on the facilitation of two major elements: the encouragement and assistance of offenders to become law- abiding citizens and the exercise of reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control.
Abstract
The section on the initial assessment and placement describes information collection, the case documentation checklist, placement assessment, and consideration of recidivism and criminal profiles. The chapter on correctional planning and institutional supervision discusses correctional planning and follow-up, offender transfers, temporary absences, earned remission, administrative segregation, and private family visits. In preparing the case for decision, the case worker must prepare progress summaries, obtain community information, understand the detention process, and prepare the parole eligibility report for judicial review. The manual discusses National Parole Board decisions and releases focusing on risk assessment, parole hearings, decision notification, and release procedures. Community supervision factors involve intake procedures, supervision planning and follow-up, risk management, frequency of contact, and suspension. The last sections of the manual deal with procedures following execution of a suspension warrant, National Parole Board decisions regarding suspended offenders, other administrative procedures, indirect supervision, and community residential facilities. 13 appendixes
