A GENERAL REPORT BY THE POLICE COMMISSIONER OF CAYMAN ISLANDS COVERS ORGANIZATION, ADMINISTRATION, SPECIAL PROBLEMS, CRIME, TRAFFIC AND OTHER UNITS, WELFARE, RECREATION, AND THE PRISON SERVICE.
Abstract
NO PROBLEMS OF CONSEQUENCE CONFRONTED THE POLICE DURING 1977. A REVIEW OF SERVICES INCLUDES TRAFFIC AND CROWD CONTROL AT LARGE GATHERINGS. RECRUITMENT OF QUALIFIED PERSONNEL CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM. NO MAJOR REORGANIZATION OR PERSONNEL CHANGES WERE MADE AND NO NEW FACILITIES WERE CONSTRUCTED. A GENERAL COMPARISON OF CRIME FIGURES SHOWS AN INCREASE IN THEFTS, BUT AN OVERALL DECREASE IN OFFENSES AGAINST PROPERTY, WITH THE CAYMAN ISLANDS BEING GENERALLY FREE OF SERIOUS CRIME. THE IMPORTATION OF CANNABIS SERIOUSLY CONCERNS OFFICIALS WHO ARE COOPERATING WITH THE U.S. DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION AND CUSTOMS SERVICE. APPENDIXES DELINEATE ORGANIZATION AND GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF THE POLICE FORCES, LIST CONDITIONS OF SERVICE INCLUDING SALARY SCALES AND ALLOWANCES, FORCE TRANSPORT, PRISON STATISTICS, AND CRIME STATISTICS.
