This report describes research completed between 1991 and 1993, and currently in progress, conducted under the auspices of the University of Oxford Center for Criminological Research.
Abstract
Projects completed include a study of the dynamics of violent incidents, a study of the factors which influence recidivist property offenders in their decisions about whether or not to desist from crime, a study of the influence of race on sentencing decisions in five Crown Courts in the West Midlands, a study of racial incidents which occurred in British prisons in 1993, and the role of sports in crime prevention programs. Topics of current research include the use of firearms in crime, an evaluation of parole, witnesses with learning disabilities, evaluation of supervision practice in the Probation Service, the dynamics of prisoner victimization, statutory responses to racially motivated crime in Europe, and the appeal of concepts of social order and criminal justice to the British public. The document also lists courses and seminars taught by members of the Center.
