DUTCH POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT STATISTICS ON OFFENSES, NONINDICTABLE OFFENSES, PERSONS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY, BANKRUPTCIES, AND FIRES FOR 1978 ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
IN THE FIRST 3 QUARTERS OF 1978, 412,681 OFFENSES WERE REPORTED TO NATIONAL AND LOCAL POLICE, 1 PERCENT HIGHER THAN THE CORRESPONDING PERIOD OF 1977. PROPERTY CRIMES DROPPED BY 2 PERCENT, WHILE OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER INCREASED BY 9 PERCENT, OFFENSES AGAINST INDIVIDUALS' LIFE AND LIMB BY 13 PERCENT, ROWDINESS BY 25 PERCENT, SEXUAL OFFENSES BY 4 PERCENT, AND TRAFFIC OFFENSES BY 9 PERCENT. THE CRIME SOLUTION RATE REMAINED ALMOST CONSTANT. IN THE FIRST 3 QUARTERS OF 1978, 6,060 OFFENSES CAME TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ROYAL MARECHAUSSEE (MILITARY POLICE), COMPARED TO 5,002 FOR THE SAME PERIOD OF 1977; 71 PERCENT OF THE SUSPECTS INVOLVED WERE MILITARY PERSONNEL (COMPARED TO 68 PERCENT IN 1977). POLICE REPORTS OR FINES WERE RECORDED FOR 2,348,213 NONINDICTABLE OFFENSES, 4 PERCENT MORE THAN IN THE COMPARABLE PERIOD OF 1977. THE ROYAL MARECHAUSSEE FILED 27,909 REPORTS AND COLLECTED 4,361 FINES FOR NONINDICTABLE CRIMES, AS OPPOSED TO 25,811 AND 2,171 IN 1977. IN THE LAST 2 QUARTERS OF 1977 AND THE FIRST 3 OF 1978, 4,941, 4,983, 4,905, 4,867, AND 5,054 PERSONS WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. TABLES SHOW OCTOBER 1978 STATISTICS ON OFFENSES AND NONINDICTABLE OFFENSES REPORTED TO THE POLICE AND ROYAL MARECHAUSSEE ACCORDING TO PROVINCES, MUNICIPALITIES, AND OFFENSE TYPES AND FIRES IN OCTOBER 1978 BY PROVINCE, THE 17 LARGEST MUNICIPALITIES, AND KIND OF FIRE.
