ACTIVITIES DURING 1979 ARE REPORTED FOR THE CENTRAL COUNCIL OF PROBATION AND AFTER-CARE COMMITTEES IN THE FIELDS OF PAROLE, PROBATION, AND POSTRELEASE WORK WITH EX-OFFENDERS.
Abstract
TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS REPORT ARE THE DUTIES OF PROBATION AND AFTERCARE OFFICERS, THE RATIONALE BEHIND THE BAIL HOSTELS FOR PAROLEES. THE NECESSITY OF SUPERVISION FOR PROBATIONERS AND PAROLES (INCLUDING EX-OFFENDERS IN SOME CASES) IS CONSIDERED 5 AAND AN INQUIRY IS CONDUCTED INTO THE ENGLISH PRISON SYSTEM IN TERMS OF ITS RELEVANCE TO PROBATION AND POSTRELEASE WORK, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PROBATION AND AFTERCARE OFFICERS AND CORRECTIONAL STAFFS, AND THE EMPLOYMENT OF VOLUNTEER WORKERS IN BAIL HOSTELS. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE NEED FOR SIMPLE TERRMINOLOGY IN DEFINING THE VARIOUS NONCUSTODIAL PENAL SANCTIONS. FOR GREATER EMPHASIS ON PREVENTIVE WORK WITH JUVENILE OFFENDERS, AND FOR THE RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING OF PROBATION AND AFTERCARE OFFICERS.
