This article describes police use of LEXIS-NEXIS and CertiFINDER to access data and generate reports quickly and efficiently.
Abstract
LEXIS-NEXIS has compiled more than 2.3 billion documents online in nearly 9,900 databases. One of the most useful LEXIS-NEXIS aspects is its ability to index news stories to associate people's names with reported criminal activities. CertiFINDER searches 840 metropolitan and large city daily newspapers and the wire services of the Associated Press. In addition, it searches corporate and limited partnership registrations, doing-business-as and fictitious name registrations, obituaries and death notices, professional licenses, aircraft and boat registrations, deed transfers and tax assessor records, bankruptcy filings, liens and judgment filings, crime indexes, and Social Security Administration death benefits lists. The article describes how CertiFINDER works, costs associated with its use, recent changes, and plans for future applications in law enforcement.
