REPORT ON THE FINDINGS OF RESEARCH CONDUCTED TO IDENTIFY VETERAN INMATES IN THE PENNSYLVANIA PRISON SYSTEM AND INFORM THEM OF GI BILL EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS AS WELL AS OTHER FEDERAL AND STATE BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO THEM.
Abstract
THE STUDY REVEALED THAT APPROXIMATELY 25 PERCENT OF THE INMATES IN THE 8 STATE PRISONS ARE VETERANS. IT WAS FURTHER FOUND THAT APPROXMATELY 50 PERCENT OF THE VETERAN-INMATES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS VETERAN REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE FORMS WERE SUBMITTED BY 643 VETERAN-INMATES WHO ATTENDED SMALL GROUP BENEFITS BRIEFINGS BETWEEN JANUARY AND MARCH 1975. SPECIAL EFFORTS, SUCH AS PRIORITY ENROLLMENT OF VETERANS IN PRISON EDUCATIONAL PRORAMS AND PROVISION OF A MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL ALLOWANCES, ARE NOW BEING MADE TO HELP INCARCERATED VETERANS IN PENNSYLVANIA....EB
