These highlights present data on offense categories and racial/ethnic and age groups for felon new admissions and parole violators returned with a new term (PV-WNTs) for the period 1986 through 1991.
Abstract
The number of felon new admissions from court decreased to 38,252 in 1991 from 39,272 in 1990; PV-WNTs increased from 14,070 in 1986 to 16,010 in 1991. More than half of felon new admissions in 1991 were under age 30. Hispanic (Mexican) felon new admissions doubled from 7,286 in 1986 to 14,454 in 1991. The number of felon new admissions for violent offenses increased to 10,616 in 1991 from the 1986 figure of 8,243. New admissions for drug offenses increased from 5,500 in 1986 to 12,459 in 1991. There were 14,994 male PV-WNTs in 1991. Property offenders represent the largest offense category for PV-WNTs received during 1991. The percentage of PV-WNTs who were white has decreased over the past 5 years. Over half of the PV-WNTs were in the 25-34 year age group. 8 tables
