This report presents statistics on characteristics of felon new admissions and parole violators returned with a new term to California prisons for calendar year 1992.
Abstract
The number of felon new admissions increased from 26,515 in 1987 to 40,158 in 1992. Felon new admissions increased 152.1 percent since 1982, 51.5 percent since 1987 and 5.0 percent since 1991. The number of male felon new admissions was 36,519, and the number of female felon new admissions was 3,639. Parole violators returned with a new term (PV-WNT's) reached an all-time high of 17,939. This is a 704.1-percent increase since 1982, 180.7 percent since 1987 and 12.0 percent since 1991. There were 16,862 male PV- WNT's and 1,077 female PV-WNT's. Tables provide statistics on felon new admissions and PV-WNT's for calendar years 1970 and 1992, offense categories of felon new admissions for calendar years 1987 and 1992, offense categories of PV-WNT's for calendar years 1987 and 1992, and racial/ethnic groups of felon new admissions and PV-WNT's for calendar years 1987 and 1992.
