The characteristics of the inmate population at the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institution on April 1, 1980, are reported.
Abstract
The institution is composed of six divisions: maximum security, medium security, minimum security, the work release program, the drug unit, and the women's division. Inmates awaiting trial are also housed in the facility. Ten inmate variables and their interrelationships are presented in tables are discussed: security classification, age, race, marital status, type of offense, length of sentence, juvenile experience, prior adult sentences, residence, and education at admission. In many cases, comparison data from September 1, 1977, are provided. The report includes 31 tables and data analyses.
