This report presents the demographic and legal characteristics of New York State inmates under custody at year end for each of the years 1975-1984.

Abstract

The inmates demographic data cover sex, age, ethnicity, education, marital status, occupation, and country of birth. Legal data encompass commitment offense type, felony class of commitment offense, first or second felony offender status, minimum and maximum sentence lengths, and time served as of year's end. A table also indicates the increase in the size of the inmate population over the years studied. 24 tables and 13 figures.
