PROGRAMS FOR SEVERAL TYPES OF RESEARCH, DEMONSTRATION, AND SERVICE-RELATED PROJECTS ARE ANNOUNCED, AND INFORMATION ABOUT APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND THE REVIEW AND AWARD OF GRANTS IS PROVIDED.
Abstract
GRANT FUNDS FOR PROJECTS WHICH ADDRESS GAPS IN KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE CAUSES AND AFFECTS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT, AND PROJECTS WITH CREATIVE APPROACHES TO THE CHILD ABUSE PROBLEM BY SOCIAL SCIENTISTS IN THE FIELD ARE ANNOUNCED. THE OBJECTIVE OF ONE OF THE GRANTS IS TO ADVANCE, THROUGH FIELD-INITIATED RESEARCH, THE UNDERSTANDING OF CHILD MALTREATMENT AND TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF CURRENT PROGRAMS OR PROVIDE INSIGHTS INTO NEW APPROACHES FOR PREVENTING AND REDUCING CHILD ABUSE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES. UNDER THIS SAME ANNOUNCEMENT, FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR LONGITUDINAL RESEARCH ON THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF CHILD MALTREATMENT. A SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT IS FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE OPERATIONAL DESIGN, TESTING, AND EVALUATION OF NEW AND REFINED SERVICE TECHNIQUES AND SERVICE DELIVERY APPROACHES IN PREVENTING AND TREATING CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF A THIRD ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO SUPPORT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPONENTS OF PROVEN, EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS USED BY EXISTING CHILD PROTECTION AND OTHER HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES WHICH HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR PROVIDING SERVICES FOR THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. A FOURTH ANNOUNCEMENT OFFERS SUPPORT TO STATE AND LOCAL EFFORTS TO PREVENT AND TREAT CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. IT IS INDICATED THAT ONE REGIONAL CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT RESOURCE CENTER WILL BE ESTABLISHED BY A GRANT AWARDED ON A COMPETITIVE REVIEW BASIS IN EACH OF THE 10 HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND WELFARE FEDERAL REGIONS. APPLICATION FORMS ARE INCLUDED, ALONG WITH SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS.
