Based on a psychodynamic approach, this book for clinicians deals with diagnostic and treatment issues in the direct practice of child protective work after a child at risk has been identified.
Abstract
It integrates theoretical and case material in an effort to deal indepth with the entire process of the worker-client relationship. Chapter contributors address specific parts of the treatment process, namely, the etiology of a particular symptom, transference and countertransference, the impact of loss, skills involved in making assessments through home visiting, assessing families' coping mechanisms, dealing with separation issues, and formulating treatment plans using a variety of methods. Discussions also offer insight into legal, historical, research, and public policy issues which have an impact on child protective services; and the approaches used in England and Wales to deal with the problem of child abuse and neglect and to treat the children are considered. Chapter references and a general subject index are provided.
