This statistical compilation, developed by the Child Welfare League of America, provides an objective basis for making sound child welfare policy decisions and is designed to help Federal, State, and local decision makers, program administrators, grant administrators, and child advocates build on what is already known about child abuse and neglect and family needs.
Abstract
The child welfare statistics, based on rates per 1,000 children in each State, illustrate wide variations in how States address child abuse and neglect. Statistics cover child abuse and neglect, child abuse fatalities, out-of-home care, adoption, finance and administration, family preservation and family support, and risk factors and trends related to child well-being. By documenting differences and disparities among States, the statistics constitute a useful baseline for measuring the effects of child abuse and neglect service experiments and cutbacks.
