This pamphlet deals with different aspects of child abuse and neglect; their prevention and possible intervention strategies.
Abstract
Child abuse and neglect are described in four types: physical abuse, child neglect, sexual abuse, and mental injury. Reasons for the increase in incidence of child abuse are illustrated, and case histories of abused children are discussed. In addition to government support efforts, there are private community agencies that offer help. The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN) has provided funds to support prevention programs and also conducts research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of child abuse. Reporting procedures and location of protection agencies in different States are listed. 27 references.
