CONCEPT ANALYSIS OF LITERATURE ON CHILD ABUSE AND ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF APPROXIMATELY 550 JOURNAL ARTICLES, 18 BOOKS, 6 DISSERTATIONS, AND 40 PAMPHLETS ON CHILD ABUSE.
Abstract
BRIEFLY REVIEWED IS THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF CHILD ABUSE. A CONCEPT ANALYSIS OF CHILD ABUSE IS OFFERED WHICH SUGGESTS THAT ANY INDIVIDUAL UNDER THE AGE OF 18 WHO IS UNDER THE CHARGE OF A CARETAKER AND WHO IS NONACCIDENTALLY INJURED SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED AS AN ABUSED CHILD. A GLOSSARY OF APPROXIMATELY 55 TERMS IS GIVEN. THE REVIEW OF EDUCATIONALLY RELEVANT LITERATURE NOTES THE FREQUENT LACK OF DEFINITIONS AND NARROW FOCUS. SEVEN FOLLOWUP STUDIES OF ABUSED CHILDREN ARE SUMMARIZED. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT RESEARCH BE CONDUCTED IN AREAS SUCH AS THE EDUCATIONAL CORRELATES OF CHILD ABUSE. APPENDED ARE EXAMPLES OF THE APPLICATION OF CONCEPT ANALYSIS TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF ABUSED CHILDREN. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS ALPHABETICAL BY AUTHOR WITHIN FORMAT CATEGORIES AND INCLUDES BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATA AND A BRIEF NONEVALUATIVE DESCRIPTION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
