PROVISIONS UNDER BRITISH AND WELSH LAW FOR PUNISHING CHILD ABUSERS AND PROTECTING VICTIMS OF CHILD ABUSE ARE DETAILED.
Abstract
THE DEFINITION OF A CHILD ABUSER AS SET FORWARD IN THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS ACT OF 1933 IS PRESENTED. CARE PROCEEDINGS FOR CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED FOR IN THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS ACT OF 1969; THE PARTIES INVOLVED, INTERIM ORDERS, GROUNDS FOR PROVIDNG CARE, AND APPEALS TO CARE PROCEEDINGS ARE DISCUSSED. THE ORDERS AVAILABLE TO THE COURT FOR HANDLING ABUSED CHILDREN INCLUDE PARENTAL RECOGNIZANCE FOR PROPER CARE AND CONTROL, SUPERVISION ORDERS, CARE ORDERS, HOSPITAL ORDERS, AND GUARDIANSHIP ORDERS; EACH IS DESCRIBED IN TERMS OF ITS LEGAL BACKGROUND. SPECIFIC PROVISIONS FOR 'PLACE OF SAFETY' POWERS UNDER THE FOLLOWING ACTS ARE DESCRIBED: THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS ACT OF 1969; THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS ACT OF 1933; THE CHILDREN ACT OF 1958; AND THE ADOPTION ACT OF 1958.
