The Child Abuse Potential Inventory and a work satisfaction questionnaire were administered to selected day-care employees whose abuse scores decreased when their job satisfaction increased.
Abstract
Forty day-care centers meeting minimum, Level 1 and a higher level of requirements, Level 2 in the North Carolina State Social Services Commission participated. A subgroup was rated 'superior.' The test was completed by 219 employees. Only two of the eight job satisfaction items -- clear job performance expectations and overall job satisfaction -- were modestly related to a measure of child abuse potential. There was no difference in the abuse scores of Level 1 and Level 2. The 'superior' centers had the lowest abuse potential scores. All employees showed no difference in abuse potential from that of nonscreened parents in the general population. 2 tables and 29 references. (Author's abstract modified)
