Abstract
THE CASE OF AN INFANT BURN VICTIM IS USED TO ILLUSTRATE HOW HOSPITAL STAFFS TARGET SUSPECT CASES OF CHILD ABUSE, THE PARAMETERS OF THE INITIAL POLICE AND SOCIAL SERVICE INVESTIGATION, THE USE OF COUNSELING AND FAMILY INTERVENTION UNITS, AND THE JUDICIAL ALTERNATIVES EMPLOYED WHEN COUNSELING AND INTERVENTION FAILS (I.E.; JUDICIAL DECISIONS MAKING THE CHILD A WARD, FOSTER HOME PLACEMENT, CRIMINAL SANCTIONS AGAINST THE PARENTS).
