This manual provides background information and specific guidelines for jurisdictions or agencies considering the development of a child death review team to improve the responsiveness of the child protection system to child fatalities.
Abstract
The discussion notes that because jurisdictions vary with respect to size, demography, geography, population distribution, and urban concentration, review teams will also vary in structure, purpose, and procedure. The manual's first section analyzes the different goals and structures of review teams and reports on the findings of a 1991 survey of all 50 States regarding the implementation of child death review teams. The second section outlines a step-by-step approach to forming and operating child death review teams. Footnotes, tables, and appended questionnaire to be used in community self-assessment in preparation for team development, written materials used by various jurisdictions in establishing and operating a team, and two examples of reports resulting from team activity
