This packet of parental guidelines for prevention of child kidnapping contains forms for child identification, guidelines for babysitters, a home checklist, and an instructional coloring book for children.
Abstract
The packet includes a pamphlet focusing on the laws (child custody, parental kidnapping prevention, and child kidnapping statutes) to help searching parents. Tips for parents include the necessity for updating children's photographs and keeping a child's personal identification folder. A form for personal fingerprint identification provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation is included. A coloring book of instructions for the Child advises the child to avoid strangers, to walk and play with friends, and to avoid empty buildings or alleys. A checklist for maintaining home safety includes such advice as locking doors and windows, not informing strangers when leaving on vacation, and not leaving a key for children in obvious hiding places. A list of resources to assist parents of a missing child is provided. A babysitters' pamplet from the Crime Prevention Coalition provides safety precautions such as not opening the door to strangers and calling the police if anything suspicious occurs. In addition, special precautions to follow when taking children to malls are included, as well as general precautions against abduction presented by the Foundation To Find and Protect New Jersey's Children. It is recommended that birth certificates, separation/divorce/custody papers, restraining orders, medical records, medical history, and dental records be kept in a current file.
