This instructor's manual presents the lesson plans, handouts, examinations, and bibliographies for an eight-part course designed to train police officers in the nature of child physical abuse and neglect and the appropriate responses of law enforcement officers.
Abstract
The course components take from 0.5 hours to 4 hours each. Topics covered are the nature and impacts of physical abuse, crisis intervention, techniques for interviewing child victims, investigative strategies in child physical abuse, child victim and welfare services, and medical issues. Each lesson plan lists the performance objectives, an outline of topics, instructional methods, equipment and material needed, and the time requirement. The handouts include lists of signs of abuse and neglect, other checklists, and excerpts of Federal and State laws and regulations. Appendix includes two lesson plans and handouts on instructional development.
