THIS MANUAL PROVIDES PRACTICAL GUIDELINES REQUIRED TO DEVELOP AN ADEQUATE DATA BASE FOR FAMILY DIAGNOSIS, ASSESS RISKS OF REPEATED ABUSE, AND CLARIFY TREATMENT CHOICES.
Abstract
THE TEXT WAS PREPARED FOR MEMBERS OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY CHILD PROTECTION TEAMS AND FOR THOSE IN THE FIELDS OF MEDICINE, NURSING, SOCIAL WORK, PSYCHOLOGY, PSYCHIATRY, LAW, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND EDUCATION WHO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. PART I DISCUSSES THE BASICS OF SELECTING TEAM MEMBERS AND THE EFFECTIVE MECHANISMS FOR CASE FINDING AND SUBSEQUENT OPTIMAL TREATMENT. PART II CONTAINS A CLEAR DESCRIPTION OF THE EVALUATIVE ROLE OF EACH TEAM MEMBER -- PHYSICIAN, NURSE, SOCIAL WORKER, PSYCHIATRIST, PSYCHOLOGIST, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENT, AND COORDINATOR. PART III PROVIDES GROUND RULES FOR AN EFFECTIVE CHILD PROTECTION TEAM MEETING. PART IV EXAMINES THE REHABILITATION OF ABUSIVE FAMILIES AND REVIEWS THE SPECIAL ROLES OF COURT, COUNTY ATTORNEY, PARENTS' ATTORNEY, CHILD'S ATTORNEY, SOCIAL WORKER, PHYSICIAN, PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE, AND THE SUPERVISOR IN PROTECTIVE SERVICES.
