The Canadian United Way Sexual Abuse Project has developed a model for the organization of services in areas related to child sexual abuse.
Abstract
The guidelines provide direction and principles for effective, coordinated interdisciplinary action. Emphasis is on protection of the child sexual abuse victim, the need for decisive criminal justice intervention, interagency cooperation, and education and training. The guidelines address each step in the involvement of police, child protection services, medical personnel, and court authorities under the headings of identification, disclosure, reporting, intervention, and assessment. Separate sections on criminal court process and the family courts are followed by chapters on treatment, prevention, education, and research. The guidelines represent a tool for the evaluation of current response to sexual abuse and are meant to be adapted flexibly to meet local needs and build on available resources. 26 references.
