The papers included in this volume explore the relationship between explanations of offending by children and young people and implications for the development of relevant and effective crime prevention strategies.
Abstract
Some of the papers in this book are based on empirical research, whereas others reflect the current preoccupation with the questioning of the fundamental principles on which systems of juvenile justice are, or should be, based. The volume addresses a number of specific topics, including the following: (1) preventing youth crime in high-crime areas; (2) social crime prevention; (3) children's hearings; (3) organization and functioning of juvenile justice in England and Wales; (4) children and violence in America; (5) female offenders in Scotland; (6) community-based alternative and intermediate treatment for young offenders; (7) secure units; and (8) restorative juvenile justice in Western European systems.
