Abstract
THE PAPERS PRESENTED DEALT WITH THE ROLE OF THE POLICE, THE CHILD IN COURT, DILEMMAS IN ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT, AND PROBLEMS OF THE COMMUNITY HOMES. SPECIFIC TOPICS COVERED IN THESE PAPERS INCLUDE THE EXTENT OF THE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PROBLEM, POLICE PROGRAMS FOR JUVENILES, LACK OF FACILITIES AND TRAINING, AND THE WAYS IN WHICH MAGISTRATES CAN HELP ACHIEVE EFFECTIVE OPERATION OF THE 1969 ACT. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE REORGANIZATION OF THE PERSONAL SOCIAL SERVICES, RESIDENT PLACEMENTS FOR JUVENILES, CULTURAL AND EMPLOYMENT PROBLEMS IN TREATING JUVENILES, PROBLEMS OF PLACEMENT, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL WORK, ELEMENTS OF A SUCCESSFUL RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM, AND INTERNAL MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNITY HOMES.
