Abstract
'CHILDREN IN TROUBLE' PORTRAYS THE DEFICIENCIES OF THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM IN DEALING WITH HOMELESS, NEGLECTED, OR DELINQUENT CHILDREN. IT CONSIDERS PARENTAL AND SCHOOL INFLUENCE, ALTERNATIVES TO DETENTION, AND EXAMINES EXISTING PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN. ADDITIONAL MATERIAL DEALS WITH THE POLICE-COMMUNITY GAP AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND PROPOSES WAYS IN WHICH THE INDIVIDUAL CITIZEN CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELL- BEING OF THESE CHILDREN. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE WEAKNESSES OF THE JUVENILE COURT AND WELFARE SYSTEM, AND SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT.
