THIS CHRONOLOGY, WHICH SPANS AN 8-YEAR PERIOD, IS LIMITED TO ATTACKS ON AMERICAN BUSINESS PERSONS WHO WERE SINGLED OUT AS VICTIMS OF TERRORIST OPERATIONS.
Abstract
THESE ATTACKS TOOK PLACE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES: BRAZIL, ISRAEL, URUGUAY, ARGENTINA, ITALY, ETHIOPIA, WEST GERMANY, BOLIVIA, CHILE, THE PHILIPPINES, GREECE, FRANCE, JORDAN, NORTHERN IRELAND, GUATEMALA, KUWAIT, RHODESIA, THE U.S., EL SALVADOR, AUSTRALIA, CANADA, LEBANON, IRAN, SAUDI ARABIA, SPAIN, COLOMBIA, THE UNITED KINGDOM, SYRIA, SWEDEN, ANGOLA, VENEZUELA, TURKEY, AND PORTUGAL. THERE WERE 158 ATTACKS ON AMERICANS DURING THE PERIOD OF STUDY. ARGENTINA RECEIVED THE OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF ATTACKS, A TOTAL OF 48. LEBANON HAD THE NEXT HIGHEST NUMBER OF ATTACKS, A TOTAL OF 14. THE DATA WERE GATHERED BY THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY. CASES WHERE THE ATTACKS WERE INDISCRIMINATE IN REGARD TO VICTIM COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN, SUCH AS SKYJACKING CASES, WERE NOT WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE STUDY. (JSP)
