A STATEMENT ABOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT, FUNDING SOURCES, SECURITY PROCEDURES, AND EMPLOYEE CODE OF ETHICS.
Abstract
THE REGIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER CONTAINS INFORMATION ON A PERSON IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM FROM THE TIME OF ARREST UNTIL FINAL DISPOSITION BY COURT AGENCIES. THE POLICE PROVIDE THE ENTRY POINT FOR DATA WITH ARREST INFORMATION. THE SETTING OF A COURT DATE ALERTS THE COMPUTER TO PRINT DOCKET FORMS, SHEETS FOR USE BY JUDGES, AND ARREST FORMS FOR PROSECUTORS DURING COURT HEARINGS. THE CENTER PROVIDES SUMMARIES OF CASELOADS BY ROOM, ATTORNEY ACTIVITY, JAIL POPULATION, ARRAIGNMENT LISTS, DISPOSITION LISTS, AND NEW PROBATIONS. SECURITY CONSIDERATIONS INCLUDE PROVISION FOR A SECURITY OFFICER, SCREENING AND SUPERVISION OF VISITORS, ACCESS TO COMPUTER ROOM BY KEY, AND CAREFUL RESTRICTIONS ON INFORMATION CHANNELS. JUVENILE ARREST DATA AND SOCIAL HISTORY DATA ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SYSTEM. THE RIGHT OF PERSONS TO SEE AND CHALLENGE THEIR RECORD IS RECOGNIZED. AN ETHICAL CODE FOR EMPLOYEE BEHAVIOR IN HANDLING THE DATA IS CLEARLY DEFINED AND ENFORCED.
